Remembering the dead

People say that dead people come back every night in the 40 days after they were buried. Is it? Some said they come and visit for 7 days only.

That why sometime you sense or  smell them -

My friends once told me that after her grandma died - the whole family kept smelling - daun sireh (elderly and Indian like to chew on this leaves)  - as her grandma used to kunyah sireh - so one ustaz (religious teacher)  told them to recite Yassin every day until the odor dissappear -

People say - leave your front porch's light on at night-
Leave the bedroom's light on as well - where the dead use to live .

Recite as many prayers as possible (Al Fatihah & Yassin) . They are around- Their soul are still around- that is why most family member dream of them -  they come in your dream.

I don't know how true this is - but reciting " Yassin" does wonders -  if you read the translation of doa after reciting "Yassin" - it is said - Ya ALLAH, make my sadness disappear, make my sadness disappear , make my sadness disappear . :(

The other night I watched a Malay drama called "Yassin Terakhir" - I know that it has become a tradition, Muslim recites Yassin for the dead but I never understand why we read it to the sick people - only now I know from the movie - recite Yassin to the sick/coma people - it will either heal them or allow them to go easily -

Then I come across a sermon - from TV as well - saying that the dead is dead - no other good deeds that he or she can do for own self - but the living can always do good deeds on their behalf - the prayers, reciting Al Quran, the "sedekah" (giving away money to the poor and unfortunate).

Move on living  but spend 5 minutes to recite AL Fatihah every day - 5 times a day after prayer- for the love ones who have left us  . Do more if you can .
